Here’s a very straightforward image, and a pretty accurate representation of the actual scene. But why make the picture? And what’s it about, other than the sign and the message it contains?

While the sign and the color of the dam and surrounding landscape drew my attention, I didn’t think that was enough to make a compelling image. Moving around the scene I decided that the placement of the sign, through the centre of the dam, would add an extra visual dynamic to the image. The notion of a frame within a frame is a powerful compositional device, one that I’m happy to have utilized in the above image.

As usual processing was conducted in Adobe Lightroom 2 and Adobe Photoshop CS4.
