This bridal portrait was made with the aid of window light. The localized color in the flowers has become popular over recent times, although it borrows from traditional hand-coloring techniques from years gone by.

In the busy time between the bride dressing and leaving for the church I wanted to take a few moments to make a more contemplative image that talks to us about the significance of the ritual our bride, Michelle, is about to undertake. I’m pleased with the result. Michelle is a unique young woman. Firm in her convictions, extremely capable, with a contemporary worldview. Yet, despite being a modern woman, Michelle is a romantic, soulful gal with an appreciation for style and tradition. There’s more than a bit of Audrey Hepburn in this one and, as such, this was a relatively easy image to make.

The original color image was rendered into black-and-white, with local adjustments to color saturation, in Adobe Lightroom 2. Final image enhancement was achieved in Adobe Photoshop CS4.
