The Cape Otway Lighthouse is an icon along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia. Nestled high on a cliff overlooking Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean it’s the oldest surviving lighthouse on mainland Australia and has operated continuously since 1848.

The image was made from a helicopter during a single pass over the lighthouse. I’m happy with the composition as it shows the lighthouse in relation to its surroundings. The black-and-white rendering, which was achieved in Adobe Photoshop CS3, further places emphasise on the highly reflective nature of the whitewashed lighthouse on its perch above the sea.
