Backlit Still Life

Canon 5D camera and Canon 180mm f3.5 Macro lens

Canon 5D camera and Canon 180mm f3.5 Macro L series USM lens Exposure Details: 8 seconds @ f25 ISO 100

Here’s a still life detail of a bottle of olive oil photographed, on the dinning room table, just prior to lunch being served during a recent photography workshop I was running in country Victoria. Illumination is provided by window light shining directly through the back of the bottle. I made use of some aluminium foil as a home made reflector, positioned in front and slightly to the side of the bottle, to bounce light back and provide some extra shape and definition to the branding on the front of the bottle.

I employed Adobe Lightroom for basic image processing and conversion into black-and-white. Adobe Photoshop CS3 was then used to further enhance the image.
