Here’s the final image from last Saturday’s Landscape Photography workshop in and around Lorne on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road. This image features a rock pool at Erskine Falls. As there was hardly any water flowing over the falls, most of the rock pools were fairly still. This provided opportunities for close-up work. My thinking is that an average photographer can make an amazing image when the conditions are right, but only a very good photographer can make a very good photograph from a relatively uninspiring location. That day all members of the group worked hard to make something out of nothing and, from my perspective, their results are a testament to their hard work and dedication.

I was originally attracted to the above scene by the circular pattern formed on the surface of the water. I rendered the original color image into black-and-white in Adobe Lightroom, prior to bringing the image into Adobe Photoshop CS3 to increase contrast and depth and, thereby, add emphasis to the pattern in the water.
