This is the second version of this image I produced for this blog site. The first was designed to accurately reproduce the original 35mm color transparency. This version explores the same image rendered in black-and-white.
I feel the textural qualities of the image, evident in the rock, clouds and white-crested waves have been further emphasized through [...]

I photographed this gentleman while on an outing with the Leica Society, a camera club based in the Melbourne suburb of Canterbury. While I’ve attended many camera clubs as a judge or guest speaker, the Leica Society is the only club where I was registered as an active member. Unfortunately, a full work schedule stopped [...]

There’s a long tradition in fine art black-and-white photography where nature and still life genres come together. It’s the photography of dead things, whether located in the natural environment or after mummification. While somewhat morbid the best of these images, to my mind, are those that deal with the reality of life and death.
It was [...]

This portrait was made in the studio. The original 35mm color transparency (slide) was rendered into black and white through a Black and White Adjustment Layer in Adobe Photoshop CS4. I also utilized a Curves Adjustment Layer in CS4 to apply a subtle cool bluish tone to the shadows and a lovely warm apricot tone [...]

Here’s one for the old timers. I produced this image after a conversation with Michelle and Ellen, two participants in a course I’m teaching. We’d been looking at a variety of photographer’s websites and were impressed by one site, in particular, where the images displayed somewhat of a bleached faded color, reminiscent of how prints [...]

This image features a section of one of the famous Twelve Apostles with the mighty Southern Ocean in the background. It forms part of a triptych (3 images within a single frame) that, in this case, provides an alternative to the more traditional panoramic view of the scene. I love the image’s rich colors, warm/cool [...]

I made this image from a helicopter while taking a tourist flight along a section of the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia. It was a beautiful clear morning with very little wind, ideal for aerial photography. The expanded shape of the river’s mouth provided a visually strong shape from my elevated position above the [...]

These days I live in Melbourne, Australia. In this neck of the woods winter has officially begun. With that in mind I thought it was a good idea to post an image that speaks about the last days of autumn. I particularly like the color contrast between the leaves as well as the luminous quality [...]
