Myanmar (Burma) is an amazing country, rich in natural beauty with a long history evidenced in a plethora of marvelous Buddhist shrines and temples. The above image was made towards the end of an absolutely wonderful day photographing around the towns of Ava and Sagaing.
The scene inside this hilltop temple was somewhat surreal: a seemingly [...]

This image of the boys bonding before the wedding service was done in a matter of seconds. Wedding photography is a tough business and the pressure to get the shot under difficult lighting conditions with the clock ticking is what determines success on the day. Fortunately the groom, Richard, and best Man, Frank, have significant [...]

Here’s an image from a recent workshop with a great bunch of enthusiasts. The image was made on a day with relatively flat, uninspiring weather.
I photographed Dorota, one of the participants, with a Canon 50mm f1.2 lens. It’s a well-built lens that handles easily. The exceptionally shallow Depth of Field achieved at f1.2 enables the [...]

It’s that time of year again in the Southern Hemisphere: Autumn, the season for contemplation that precedes the bleak beauty of winter. Melbourne, where I live, is favoured with clear bright days throughout most of the season. After a long summer the leaves have begun to change color and fall over recent weeks. With it’s [...]

I hope you like this shot. I certainly had fun making it. It was well after sunset on a very cold evening near Harcourt in Central Victoria. I had just finished day one of a two-day workshop in the area and, prior to heading back to base for a well earned dinner, I decided to [...]

This image relies on light to bring out the warm colors of the flower and background as well as critical focusing and a very shallow Depth Of Field (DOF) to bring the eye back to the centre of the flower.
I employed the wonderful Canon 180mm f3.5 Macro L series USM (Ultra Sonic Motor) lens to [...]

This image was made while on a drive through the Great Otway National Park near Apollo Bay in Victoria, Australia. The day was overcast which provided the scene with a soft, gentle light and ensured that most areas where relatively evenly lit. As a consequence colors remained relatively rich and shadows open.
The problem was that [...]
