This image of fallen leaves was made with early morning light on a frosty morning in Central Victoria. It was a simple image to make. I used a telephoto macro lens from an elevated (birds eye) viewpoint and moved in close to isolate the key elements of the image from their surroundings.
The dewdrops and tonal [...]

Here’s a familiar place for regular visitors to this site. Chewton Lake is one of a variety of landscapes visited by participants in photography workshops I run in Central Victoria.
This particular image was made at twilight after a great day exploring the region. A long 8-second exposure was required to gather enough light onto the [...]

The image at the bottom of this post is what you might, in a compassionate frame of mind, refer to as Photoshop Artistry. I’d completely understand it if many of you don’t particularly like it. It’s the result of some experimentation but, without a particular goal in mind, the image is as much about process [...]

This image was made in a field by the edge of the Cairn Curran Reservoir in Central Victoria. I drove my 4WD (SUV) down to the shore of the Reservoir and, after a short walk, turned around to behold this lovely scene. I was taken with the vibrant colors, strong textures and dramatic clouds. I [...]

Here’s a fun image of Emma, a participant at a workshop I recently ran in and around the town of Chewton in Central Victoria. The pink gumboots and color-coordinated clothing really said it all. My job was simply to place further emphasis on these elements.
I employed Adobe Lightroom to localize the color to Emma’s boots [...]

Here’s another image from last weekend’s workshop in and around Chewton in Central Victoria. This is a very straightforward image that depicts water running, along a diagonal course, over a rock face. It’s a detail from a much larger landscape.
When setting up and composing this image I was intuitively drawn in close to the subject [...]

Cairn Curren is a small settlement about 5 minutes drive from Maldon in Central Victoria. It’s a lovely area, noted for its reservoir and associated sailing club. I made the above image on the road between Maldon and Cairn Curren. The wheel cactus, while fascinating to behold, is a weed that has caused considerable difficulty [...]

Here’s another image I made last weekend while running a workshop in and around the town of Chewton in Central Victoria. This image is all about the power of water as it cascades over rock and cuts its way through the landscape on its downward journey to the sea.
My starting point Shutter Speed when photographing [...]

I’ve just returned from a great weekend away. I ran a natural light workshop in and around the town of Chewton, near Castlemaine, in Central Victoria. The weather was bleak with heavy, overcast skies and cold conditions making life difficult for facilitator and participants alike. Fortunately all that was required to turn a potentially uncomfortable [...]
