I hope you like this shot. I certainly had fun making it. It was well after sunset on a very cold evening near Harcourt in Central Victoria. I had just finished day one of a two-day workshop in the area and, prior to heading back to base for a well earned dinner, I decided to [...]

Here’s a very simple close-up of a fallen leaf on a patch of textured earth. I like the contrast in form between the gentle feminine shape of the leaf against the hard, textured earth. Placing the leaf off-centre adds a slight tension to the image and encourages the viewer to consider the background almost as [...]

Here’s a still life detail of a bottle of olive oil photographed, on the dinning room table, just prior to lunch being served during a recent photography workshop I was running in country Victoria. Illumination is provided by window light shining directly through the back of the bottle. I made use of some aluminium foil [...]

Here’s an interesting image made at The Beeches, prior to the recent horrific bushfires, near Marysville in Victoria. I found this lovely little grove on a walk with my photographer friend, David. The backlighting passed through some of the leaves and illuminated patches of ferns throughout the scene. This provided a great contrast with the [...]

Mariners Falls is situated a short drive out of Apollo Bay along the Great Ocean Road and offers great opportunities for photographers to spend a few hours engaged in what they do best. The falls are very accessible via an easy walk from the car park. Along the way one of four straightforward river crossings, requiring [...]

Of the numerous waterfalls in Victoria‘s Great Otway National Park my current favorite is Beauchamp Falls near Lavers Hill. It’s a magical place that will provide hours of photographic opportunities. While relatively easy to access the walk back up from the falls is steep and hard, particularly with a pack and tripod on your back. [...]

The above image was made at sunset and marked the completion of a wonderful day’s photography in the Victorian Alps. I’d spent the day photographing on Mount Buffalo and ended the day with this sunset shot of the large rock outcrop known as the Cathedral. The direction of the strong side light emphasized the shape [...]

Here are two versions of the same image of a bunch of mushrooms, or some other type of fungi, at Mariners Falls near Apollo Bay on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road. Wet with moisture from the nearby falls the mushrooms were very reflective and, as a result, displayed very vibrant (highly saturated) colors.
While the colors in [...]

The creation of this image almost didn’t happen. I had stayed overnight at Lorne on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road and really struggled, as I always seem to do, to get out of bed in the morning. The weather was bleak and the anticipated [...]

Happy Easter to All! I wanted to post a special image on what for many people is a very special day: Easter Sunday. Whatever our own personal belief system may be times like Easter are a way for us to come together, with our own families, in a way that encourages us to consider the [...]
