The above image was made in Bagan, ancient capital of Myanmar (Burma). The Buddha statue was positioned in front of a mural depicting significant moments from the Buddha’s life. The original image was made with Kodak Ektachrome E100VS film. The ‘vs’ stands for vivid saturation and, with the films slight magenta/red color bias, flesh tones [...]

Mariners Falls is a lovely and easily accessible waterfall a short drive out of Apollo Bay, a major town along the Great Ocean Road. Photographers can usually move quite close to the cascade and, thereby, use tight framing to concentrate the viewer’s attention on the water itself and the ferns, rock and fallen tree that [...]

This is the second version of this image I produced for this blog site. The first was designed to accurately reproduce the original 35mm color transparency. This version explores the same image rendered in black-and-white.
I feel the textural qualities of the image, evident in the rock, clouds and white-crested waves have been further emphasized through [...]

I was born in 1962 in Hamilton a provincial town in Western Victoria, 285km west of Melbourne the state capital, where I currently reside. I remember as a child the population, marked on signs at several main entry points to the town, was 10,200. Back then that seemed like a whole lot of people.
As a [...]

Myanmar (Burma) was a revelation for me. I loved it and can’t wait until I can re-visit this spectacular country.
I discovered the above scene while wandering around the ancient capital of Bagan. The strong side light emphasized the shape, texture and tonality of the Buddha statue and the brick platform on which it is situated. [...]

I photographed this gentleman while on an outing with the Leica Society, a camera club based in the Melbourne suburb of Canterbury. While I’ve attended many camera clubs as a judge or guest speaker, the Leica Society is the only club where I was registered as an active member. Unfortunately, a full work schedule stopped [...]

Following on from yesterday’s post here’s another image from the Murray River at Mildura where I’II be working as stills photographer on the Australian motion picture film Summer Coda during November and December 2007.
This particular image explores the notion of Day as Night where the image is exposed and/or processed in such a way to [...]

The city of Mildura is an oasis in the semi-arid Sunraysia region on the Victorian side of the border with NSW. A major producer of citrus fruits, grapes and wine Mildura has become a burgeoning tourist market providing the visitor with lots of photographic opportunities.
I will be spending quite a bit of time in Mildura [...]

While on a photography trip to the Victoria Alps I paid a quick visit to Mount Buffalo in Victoria, Australia. Part way up the mountain I decided to pull over and take a look around. Just off the road I discovered this lovely scene. Moving water, trees and rocks always provide opportunities for the energetic [...]

Kakadu National Park is one of Australia’s most important and spectacular national parks. Providing the visitor with a great introduction to many of the regions key elements: landscape, wildlife and weather. While interaction with indigenous people is usually limited, dialogue with local tour operators, guides and national park officers provide the visitor with fascinating insights [...]
